Manager explains the work load to re-energize the town

To the Editor:

To Customers of the Ashburnham Municipal Light Plant:

We would like to thank all the customers of the Ashburnham Municipal Light Plant for their support during this epic restoration of Ashburnham's electrical system. At the height of the storm the entire town was without electricity. Beginning Friday morning, we started restoring electrical service to the main feeders in the center of town and worked our way out to the ends of the system. At the height of the restoration we had 13 line crews and three tree crews assisting with repairs for a total of 32 workers. We followed the plan restoring main lines first which got the more the populated areas on and worked our way down to the individual homes with damage to their electrical service. We understand that seeing line trucks go by your homes and not stopping to make repairs was frustrating, but every stop made for individual repairs would have resulted in slowing the total recovery by a couple of hours. Our goal was to have everybody restored by Christmas and we worked through some of the worst weather conditions I have ever worked in during my 25 years of working in storm restoration, to meet that goal.

We would like to thank the Fire Department, the Highway Department, the Police, Oakmont, and Cushing for supporting our crews as they completed the restoration. Without this additional support we would not have been able to meet our goal. This truly was a community effort and we, at the Light Department, are grateful for all the support and acts of kindness we received during this effort.

Once again thanks to all for your confidence and support.
Stan Herriott, Manager
