Historical society to host Shaker basket classes

The Westminster Historical Society will sponsor Shaker style basket classes this summer on Monday, July 13, and on Monday, Aug. 10, both at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Westminster.

The July basket is a rectangle, 5- by 10- by 3-inch. The August basket, also a rectangle, is 9- by 11- and 4.5 inch. The baskets are similar in style, with a band of narrow weavers, to contrast with the wider weavers. The baskets are sturdy and very functional as well as good looking.

The July basket and class is $25; the August basket and class is $30. (The cost includes all materials and instruction, and students will go home with a completed basket.) Pre-registration and payment are necessary. Refunds will be made until one week before the class.
