Program to commemorate 2008 Ice Storm

With the first anniversary of that incredible event around the corner, the Forbush Library in Westminster and Central Massachusetts Sustainable Communities hope to focus attention on its ongoing impact by asking area residents to submit photos and stories for an evening of sharing and discussion to be held at the library on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. People interested in contributing are asked to send their photos to Heather Billings at hmbillings@yahoo.com or drop them off at the library front desk for a slide show to be presented that night. (Photos will be returned.) Those interested in submitting written memories, stories or thoughts can send them to the Forbush Library, Main St., Westminster or drop them off ahead of time. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, Dec. 5.

Organizers hope to explore what people learned about modern lifestyles, interdependence, conservation and community during the aftermath of such an unbelievable natural disaster and plan to compile a selection of photos and stories for publication in the future. The event is also planned as the kick-off to a series of related programs designed to help people prepare for the next time “technology fails.”
