WEB UPDATE: Spartans take state title over Holyoke

(FRIDAY, 10:30 a.m.)Oakmont's ice hockey team took the school’s first ever State Championship on Thursday night at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

The team beat Holyoke 4-2 in the Division 3A championship.

The Spartans are a combination students from Oakmont Regional and Narragansett Regional high schools.

The Spartans finished the regular season with a 17-1-2 record, and in first place for the Central Mass. District. On the way to the state finals Oakmont took out Worcester, 8-1, in a quarter-final game and Groton-Dunstable, 6-2, in the semi-final district game, before beating Fitchburg, 2-1, to take the district title on Monday.
